Prince Bashes Guitar After Performance -- But It's Not His Instrument
5:38AM Tuesday
March 12, 2013

Prince was quite the rock star when he appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last week.  After powering through performances of his songs "Screwdriver" and "Bambi," he ended the set by playing some searing guitar chords, then tossing instrument into the air.  By the time the guitar had crashed on the floor, damaging it's headstock, Prince was already exiting the spotlight.

And while there are no rules against cool dudes trashing their guitars, there's one problem: the guitar didn't belong to Prince.  Instead, the vintage instrument was loaned to him by Kirk Douglas, a member of Jimmy's house band the Roots, according to DeathAndTaxesMag.com.  Kirk tweeted a photo of the damaged guitar, captioning it "Purple Pain."

Kirk tweeted that the only reason he'd had the 1961 Epiphone Crestwood guitar in the building was because he was rehearsing with his band mates for a Prince tribute concert that's happening Thursday in New York City.  Nonetheless, Kirk seems to be taking the whole thing pretty well.  He joked in a tweet, "Maybe it's because I'm a dad but I think framing the guitar is a little like rewarding bad behavior."
